Cynthia Thomas
I was introduced to art as a small child and have studied it ever since. I learned colour theory, composition, drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, as well as pottery and jewelry. I achieved a BFA, from the California College of Arts and Crafts and a MA at San Jose State University in Metal Arts and Jewelry Design.
From 1969 to 1979 I won numerous awards for my jewelry. I worked in the jewelry industry as a goldsmith and master model maker. I also worked in design research and development. In 1987 I freelanced as a model maker for the jewelry and figurine industries.
In 1992 I took a bronze casting class. I was moved to create much larger pieces. The Metamorphosis series was my stepping stone to more expressive work. Many of my bronze sculptures are my vision to connect our humanness with nature through blended imagery. My hope is to impress upon you, the viewer of my work, that all Earth’s creatures are made up of the same elements and energies. Thus we are all connected. My work reflects the spiritual, emotional and physical connection of humans and nature through visual metamorphoses.
My sculptures have been shown throughout the western US and New York since 1997. Each piece is cast in limited editions.Some editions are as few as 5 with a majority in editions of less than 50. A few smaller pieces are in editions of 100.
